Prayer points for Friday 7th August 2020

Setting the scene

On 20th March I called for a National Day of Prayer, not only for the UK, but also for others who live further afield.  A few days after it was over two friends contacted me and asked if I would do a National Prayer Day every Friday, and asked if I would continue to give some pointers each week for prayer.  After prayer, I took up the challenge of doing just that.  Please listen to my original video calling for prayer if you haven’t heard it already – it sets the scene for what we would want to do: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_w9dLCcSOY

I can hardly believe it’s August already.  Are you like me – feeling that time is swiftly rushing by even more than normal through this Covid-19 crisis?  Time seems in short supply, so let’s make every minute count.  You know many, including myself, believe we are on the brink of the biggest revival the world has ever seen and if this is true then we are in a preparation period right now – a time when we can get prepared for all God is going to do.  When I hear of God moving in our world, my heart cries out, “Lord I want to be involved – I want to be ready – I want to see you move and see so many lives transformed by the love and power of God.”  We read many books that tell us of revivals many years ago and our hearts yearn for God to do it again.  Here in ngm we lived in revival for three years during 2003-2006, where those things we read about in revival books happened in front of our eyes.  Oh, I want to see it happen again!  Let’s get ready – let’s draw close to God – let’s welcome his presence.  Let’s tell him we want to be involved.  Let’s not waste this time.  If you don’t know God, then draw close to God and he will draw close to you (James 4:8 and Jeremiah 29:12-14).  If you do know the Lord, then turn your heart towards him each day, read his written word, seek him by being honest with him – tell him your worries, fears and concerns and leave them at his feet, soak yourself in his presence.  Get in his waterfall of love and get soaked by his Holy Spirit.  Don’t waste this precious time; it’s a time of preparation as we look forward to the greatest move in history.  Let’s keep our focus despite all the fear around us.  Remember we live in the world, but we are not of this world.  Don’t carry fear in your heart.  Do not listen to all the fear mongering in the news…instead remember that our God is faithful and he will bring us through this pandemic, but will we be ready for what God wants to do?  Let’s make sure we are – join me as I seek God like never before.

PRAYER POINTS FOR FRIDAY 7th August:-

  1. Praise God the number of people dying has come right down – pray that we will get to the place where there are no deaths from this dreadful disease in the UK and in our world.   Pray for those who have lost friends and family through this crisis.  Pray they will feel the comfort of our great God.  Continue to pray too for the rate of infection to come down.  Pray that we never have to go back into lockdown and that this virus is defeated.

  1. Continue to pray for our government and for all world leaders – that they will have wisdom from God.  Pray for leaders who have integrity and honesty at their core.  Pray for all MP’s to work together for the good of the country and pray that each of them will find God during this unusual time.

  1. We continue to praise God for our NHS and for all caring professions all over the world.  Pray for surgeons, doctors, nurses, care workers, dentists, assistants, cleaners, receptionists and everyone putting themselves at risk so that we can get the help and treatment we need.  Pray for each person entering the hospitals in our world whether as a patient or as a worker.  Pray for protection for each one.  Pray for their mental health as well as their physical health.  So many of them have heavy hearts because of what they have seen happen to their patients.

  1. Pray against fear – there is so much fear in our world at this time.  Pray that those filled with fear will find release of this through the love of God.  1 John 4:18 says there is no fear in love and that perfect love drives out fear.  Let’s pray for many to discover that love for themselves.  Pray that the media will have God fearing men and women at their helm.  Pray for good and honest reporting.  Pray that they will report the good things that happen each day in this crisis.  If you find you are being affected by the news in a bad way, then restrict what you watch and don’t bring it into your home.

  1. Pray for the economy in the UK but also across the whole world.  Pray for supernatural provision for individuals and for businesses.  Pray against anxiety because of difficult decisions that many people are having to make.  Pray that jobs and businesses will be saved.  Pray for kindness and generosity at this time particularly towards others who have lost their jobs/business.

  1. Pray for those with mental health problems, those who have struggled hugely through this crisis.  Pray for abusive situations and for those in despair.  Pray that through their pain, they will find our Lord.  Pray that they will discover heavenly and human kindness that will heal their hurts and transform their lives.  Pray for hope for everyone because if we lose hope – we cease to live.  Guard your hope at all costs by reading the word of God and feeding our minds on the truth displayed in the Bible.

  1. Continue to pray for revival.  Ask the Lord to continue to prepare us during this time.  So many great men and women of God are saying that we are going to see the greatest revival of all time soon, let’s pray and get ready for all God is going to do.  Feed your mind, heart and spirit with the word of God.  Welcome the presence of God into your home and into your life.  Pray for many to turn to God in this hour.  Let’s display kindness and generosity – these things will open people’s hearts so much more than criticism and judgement.  Let’s show the heart and love of our Father in Heaven.

Helpful instructions/suggestions:

  1. Set your phone, your watch, your alarm clock or whatever to remind you to pray throughout the day.  I would suggest praying every hour for a few minutes or for as long as you wish, but make a time that is suitable for yourself.
  2. Maybe pray for one of the above pointers every hour – or take one for each day of the week.
  3.  Every time you wash your hands, which should be often – then pray a ‘Heal Our Nation’ prayer – sing or speak the lyrics of ‘Heal our Nation’ and ask God to pour out his Spirit on this land.‘Heal our Nation, Heal our Nation, Heal our Nation, pour out your Spirit on this land.’  Sing or speak that twice. And finish with the first line from the verse ‘Lord we long for you to move in power’ – and ask God to move in the UK but also move in our world.https://soundcloud.com/nancygoudie/heal-our-nation
  1. Keep reading Psalm 91, Psalm 121 and Psalm 46 to encourage yourself and your family with the truth of the word of God.  Perhaps try meditating on Psalm 62:5-6 – Find rest, O my Soul in God alone; my hope comes from him.  He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress; I will not be shaken.
  2. Use the UK Blessing – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUtll3mNj5U Play it in your home – make this as a wonderful blessing on you and your family, your children and their children. When you go a walk pray it over your neighbourhood. The song was written in Elevation church, USA.  You can watch here and discover how the song came together in the presence of the Lord – no wonder this song is being used at this time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zp6aygmvzM4&feature=emb_rel_end

What a joy it has been to pray for those who have asked for prayer in recent weeks.  Remember if you or others need prayer do drop us an email and we will pray.  Don’t forget our prayer line if you or others need prayer – prayer@ngm.org.uk

Doctors tell us that fear and anxiety kill more people than disease itself.  Something like 80% of all illness is caused by fear and anxiety.  So, let’s not carry fear with us every day especially important through this COVID-19 situation.  Trust in the Lord – oh how we need to learn to trust our God!  Let’s not trust the news and the media more than we trust our Lord.  Read his written word – believe what it says.  An anxious heart weighs a man down, but a kind word cheers him up (Proverbs 12:25).  I sought the Lord and he heard me and delivered me from all my fears (Psalm 34:4).  Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God (Philippians 4:6).  Jesus himself tells us in Matthew 6:25 not to worry about our lives, about what we will eat or drink or what we will wear, but instead he tells us (verse 33) to seek God’s Kingdom first and all those things will be given to us – again it comes down to trustLet’s tell him that we trust him for our health, for our finances, for our families and friends.  Trust in our God because as you do that’s when peace like a river flows through our bodies and minds – the kind of peace that passes all understanding.  I know this kind of peace because I dared to trust in God when I was at my lowest point in life and he came through for me.  The peace he gave me is still with me four years later.  If he has done this for me – he will do it for you.  Trust him – speak your trust out loud to God and see what he will do.  With love to you all – Nancy x
