Prayer Points for Friday 18th September 2020

Setting the scene

On 20th March I called for a National Day of Prayer, not only for the UK, but also for others who live further afield.  A few days after it was over two friends contacted me and asked if I would do a National Prayer Day every Friday, and asked if I would continue to give some pointers each week for prayer.  After prayer, I took up the challenge of doing just that.  Thank you for joining us.  To read previous prayer points and encouragements – go to www.nancygoudie.com/blog/

When life doesn’t turn out the way you envisioned – it can be so hard to keep trusting and to keep your focus on God, but this is exactly what we must do.  In life we can experience pain, loss, heartache etc., which can cause dismay, immense pressure, anxiety and deep sorrow.  It’s in these times that the enemy would want you to take your attention off God and onto the issues around us.  In this time of COVID-19 we need to remember what it says in Phil 4:6  (my paraphrase) – Do not be anxious or concerned about anything instead pray about everything.  Tell God about your problems, issues and needs and don’t forget to thank him for his wonderful answers.  When you do and you trust in God rather than what you see around you, verse 7 will be your experience because then peace will flow like a river and the peace that passes all understanding will be yours.

Let’s keep our eyes on Jesus – let’s keep his words and his truth in our hearts.  Our world may be in confusion and pain, anxiety may be surrounding us from all sides, but the truth is that God is with us, he is all around us, he goes in front, behind and beside us and is inside us.  He is our strong tower (Proverbs 18:10).  He is our fortress (Psalm 46:11)).  He is our protection (Psalm 18:2).  When we are weary and heavy laden – he gives us his rest (Matthew 11:28).  He carries our anxiety and pain.  When we give him our burdens, he carries us and them (Ps 68:19).  In his presence there is fullness of joy (Ps 16:11) – so live in his presence and experience his joy even in the midst of sorrow.  I’m not just saying words – I have experienced this for myself.  So, let’s keep our eyes on the Lord – let’s keep praying – remembering that prayer is a two-way conversation – so pray and tell him your concerns, hand over your burdens to him, ask him to change our nation and change our world, but also take time to listen to his words.  Read your Bible which is full of the Lord’s words, but also take time to listen to the still small voice which comes to each of us who take time to listen.

Life may be different to what you think – but our God is still on the throne and he brings good out of every situation (Romans 8:28) – don’t just listen to the news, but listen and see what God is doing – it will encourage your heart and thrill your spirit. Woohoo!

Praise God that the death rate due to COVID-19 continues to fall – let’s continue to pray about this because we want the death rate in England to fall to zero as it has done at times in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.  Even one person dying from this horrid virus is too many.  They don’t understand why when the rate of infection is rising that the death rate isn’t….so let’s keep praying not only for the death rate to continue to come down, but also that the rate of infection which is rising at a great rate to fall too.  Let’s pray this for our world as well as the nation of the UK.

Many places are experiencing local lockdowns – do pray for these towns and cities.  Pray that people will be sensible and follow the rules that the government lay out.  There are still reports as I wrote this of many ignoring the guidelines and laws of our land in respect of COVID-19.  Pray for those who now cannot meet their friends or family because of the new social rules.  Pray that these rules will be able to be relaxed soon.  Pray for the rate of infection to come down not only in the UK but also in our world.

We continue to do as the Bible asks and pray for our leaders.  Pray for Boris Johnson and all those in our government.  Pray for unity, for wisdom, for compassion and for integrity.  None of the leaders of the world have been this way before and so need our prayers right now.  Let’s not add to the voices of criticism, but instead pray for them for wisdom and for a realisation of who our God is.  Pray for our leaders to be surrounded by wise and Godly people who can help them in the decisions they need to make.  Pray for unity between countries to fight the virus and that we will help one another.

Praise God that the schools have been able to open.  Pray for safety for the teachers and for the children.  Pray for peace for the children and the adults.  Pray that they would be kept well physically and mentally.  Do continue to pray for those children who due to complex health needs are not able to return to school.  Pray for peace for them and that they would find creative ways to still be able to connect with others.  Pray for some universities who have instructed their students to learn online rather than coming back to campus.  Pray that this decision would not affect their education in a bad way.

We continue to thank God for our incredible NHS.  Pray for everyone who works for the NHS and also other health providers across the world from cleaners to surgeons, that God would strengthen and encourage them.  Pray for God’s protection on them too.  Pray too for wisdom for doctors and consultants as they treat patients that they would find the right medicines and new and innovative ways to fight this disease.  Pray too for a safe vaccine to be found.  Pray for others too who are suffering from other illnesses that they will be able to receive the treatment that they need.  Pray for a supernatural release of God’s healing power across the world.

Let’s continue to pray for our economy – for businesses to succeed and for those without jobs to be successful in getting a job they enjoy. There are many businesses that are struggling to keep afloat – do pray that they find innovative ideas to prosper their business in these difficult times.  Pray that they discover that when they put God first and show kindness to others, God will honour them and bless them. Pray for those who are without jobs because of COVID-19 – pray too that they find good reliable jobs – way beyond their wildest dreams and desires.  Again, pray that they will turn to God to help them and discover a way of life that is beyond anything they have ever known.

Let’s continue to pray that many in our nation will turn to God – pray that they will find the real, true and living God who loves each of us so much.  Pray for revival for ourselves, our nation and our world.  Pray for a Tidal Wave of God’s Spirit to soak our land and spread to other nations too.  Use the song Heal our Nation as a prayer – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CoZwje7Ogkg  and cry out for God to pour out his Spirit across this land.

Helpful instructions/suggestions:

Set your phone, your watch, your alarm clock or whatever to remind you to pray throughout the day.  I would suggest praying every hour for a few minutes or for as long as you wish, but make a time that is suitable for yourself.
Maybe pray for one of the above pointers every hour – or take one for each day of the week.
Every time you wash your hands, which should be often – then pray a ‘Heal Our Nation’ prayer – sing or speak the lyrics of ‘Heal our Nation’ and ask God to pour out his Spirit on this land.‘Heal our Nation, Heal our Nation, Heal our Nation, pour out your Spirit on this land.’  Sing or speak that twice. And finish with the first line from the verse ‘Lord we long for you to move in power’ – and ask God to move in the UK but also move in our world. https://soundcloud.com/nancygoudie/heal-our-nation
Keep reading Psalm 91, Psalm 121 and Psalm 46 to encourage yourself and your family with the truth of the word of God.  Perhaps try meditating on Psalm 62:5-6 – Find rest, O my Soul in God alone; my hope comes from him.  He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress; I will not be shaken.
Use the UK Blessing – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUtll3mNj5U Play it in your home – make this as a wonderful blessing on you and your family, your children and their children. When you go a walk pray it over your neighbourhood. The song was written in Elevation church, USA.  You can watch here and discover how the song came together in the presence of the Lord – no wonder this song is being used at this time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zp6aygmvzM4&feature=emb_rel_end

Do you need prayer?  What a joy it has been to pray for those who have asked for prayer in recent months.  We are seeing many answers to our prayers.  Remember if you or others need prayer do drop us an email and we will pray.  Don’t forget our prayer line if you or others need prayer – prayer@ngm.org.uk

Don’t give up praying even when you don’t see the answers you are looking for.  There has been so many times in the past where I have been praying for something and did not see any answers until later.  It was only as I looked back, that I could see from the moment I started to pray that God was working behind the scenes bringing about the answers I was looking for.  So, don’t give up – instead keep praying – God is answering and we will see his answers as we persist in prayer.  Sending much love to you all- Nancy x
